Donald Clarke Silverwood (1950- 1974+)

Donald Silverwood and his twin sister Joan were born in Rochdale on 17th January 1924. Donald joined the teaching staff at WHSB in 1950 after service in the Royal Signals during WW2. He became known to the boys as “Luke” because he never lost his Lancashire accent and frequently issued the instruction “Look at your books”. Drawing on his experience in Signals, he ran the School Radio Club, and out of school he played an active part in the local Scout Movement. He died, aged 91, in the Camelot Nursing Home, Worthing on 10 August 2015.
